SDZ X-LINKER CORNEAL COLLAGEN CROSSLINKER

Integrated colour monitor with 30 min countdown timer ensures accurate positioning and  provides correct exposure.

The SDZ X-Linker.

In 2007 Dr Simon Dean opened the way for pioneering treatment of keratoconus in New Zealand with the SDZ X-Linker. Corneal Collagen Crosslinking is a proven treatment for corneal ectatic disorders, keratoconus being the most common. Devices at the time were prohibitively expensive and had undesirable beam profiles. Dr Dean, with the aid of his brother Antony (an electronic engineer) designed and manufactured the SDZ X-Linker to make the treatment available in the public health system, free for patients. The device was validated independently and published by the University of Auckland ophthalmology team. Many of the devices are still in use today.  It has the potential, in one treatment, to freeze the progression of keratoconus. Since its inception the devices collectively have carried out thousands of treatments in NZ protecting the young sufferers of keratoconus from progression of their disease and reduced vision. All that is required is one 10min exposure, following soaking of the cornea with riboflavin (vitamin B2). In vitro studies have shown corneal strength increases of 200-300%.

The SDZ X-Linker is designed from the ground up to provide a homogenous and accurate dosage of safe UVA light, with inbuilt safety mechanisms to ensure smooth output without fluctuation, and an integrated colour camera in the delivery head to monitor the treatment and ensure correct positioning and alignment. A 10min countdown timer automatically stops the treatment when completed, and can be paused at any time.

The beam profile is superior to any other crosslinking devices on the market, potentially improving both safety and treatment effect.
